BlackBerry’s Black Eye

BlackBerry is facing fallout from their biggest outage in years. The trouble started Monday in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa, with RIM citing the failure of a crucial link in their infrastructure, as well as the failure of an attempted backup. As of today, the outage has spread to North America, without explanation from RIM.

This just adds to the challenges being faced by the company. iPhones and Android-based phones are cutting into RIM’s share of the US market and RIM’s US revenue dropped 50% last quarter. If RIM can’t deliver on reliability they face losing even more of their market share to competitors.
