Dennis Weid (aka EmissionWiz) brings home FixYa’s Expert of the Month Award

Here’s a short Q&A with Dennis where he explains his background, what he likes about the site, and why he loves solving your vehicle problems:

It is welcome honor to be chosen as the Expert of the month, thanks to all the staff that make the choice.

How did you find FixYa?

I found Fixya.com doing a search for an answer to a car question I had about a 1984 Chevy Corvette I owned. I liked what I saw and decided to join in on the fun. Being retired from the auto repair trade for some time now I thought it would be nice to help others with their car problems to keep my skills sharp and improve myself in the process.

How long did you work as an auto repair technician?

I worked as an Auto repair technician for 35 years in a number of local new car dealers. I finally settled on diagnosis and repair of engine and automotive electronic control system and became a Master technician in that field with a Ford dealer in my home town of Concord, California.

I also served 8 years in the US Air Force as an electrical power plant operating Technician and left the service in 1975 for financial reasons. I am very proud of my military service.

What is your favorite product to solve questions for on FixYa?

My favorite product is cars of course, and in particular my new Dodge Charger R/T.

Do you work on your own vehices?

Newer electronically controlled cars require a lot of special equipment to diagnose and repair. It is not practical to own that much kit, so I leave the work to the dealer except for routine maintenance (which I do on my own).

Any final thoughts on the site and your experience?

I have learned a lot on this site and hope that i’ve shared it in a way that helps as many as possible.
