This week’s testimonial comes from the world of microwaves and once again a FixYa expert was able to rescue a kitchen appliance from being tossed to the curb.

FixYa user Tom M. was having problems with his Whirlpool microwave turntable not spinning or heating properly. Tom posted a very detailed explanation of the problem he was having and another FixYa expert knew exactly what to do.

The problem turned out to be a bad upper door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix, according to expert William M.

BlackBerry’s Black Eye

BlackberryBlackBerry is facing fallout from their biggest outage in years. The trouble started Monday in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa, with RIM citing the failure of a crucial link in their infrastructure, as well as the failure of an attempted backup. As of today, the outage has spread to North America, without explanation from RIM.

This just adds to the challenges being faced by the company. iPhones and Android-based phones are cutting into RIM’s share of the US market and RIM’s US revenue dropped 50% last quarter. If RIM can’t deliver on reliability they face losing even more of their market share to competitors.

While last week’s Testimonial of the Week highlighted the great assistance a novice DIY-er can find on FixYa, this week’s shows that even a seasoned professional can receive valuable help from FixYa’s fabulous Experts.

Over the next couple of days, Ricky and Jeff exchanged comments, troubleshooting the problem and narrowing down the potential causes.

FixYa’s Experts Salute Steve

JobssmFixYa’s Experts have come together to express their sadness over Wednesday’s death of Steve Jobs. MrBrokeRench hailed Jobs as a visionary, and Mike258 added “The man changed the world, even now, he continues to change it. Now that is a legacy.”

Steve’s death came just a day after Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event where new CEO Tim Cook and other senior Apple execs announced the release of the iPhone 4S. This was the first release event not hosted by Steve himself, and while everyone seems to agree that Cook did well, the event lacked the magic of a Jobs performance.

Steve will live on in our hearts and minds, and in the amazing products he created.
